Shroud of the Avatar Empty Shroud of the Avatar

Howdy Anphillians! Been a long time since I stopped through here, but glad to see things as still going. I got some work stuff to work through, but I am hoping to stop by and check out the server in the next month or so.

Hoping this is not too spammy, but I have supported a recent Kickstarter called Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues. The game is now in full swing development and we should be getting an alpha in a few months. However, they are still trying to get the word out and raise more money for the game and have a referial program in place for new backers. Obviously I loved playing NWN with you all and would love to play SOTA with you as well, so I thought I would let you know about it in case you haven't heard of it.

SOTA is basically a spiritual successor to the Ultima series and billed as a cross between Ultima 7 and Ultima Online. Richard Garriot, aka Lord British, is leading a great team of developers all with experience with the Ultima series. Tracy Hickman is onboard to write the story and will also be writing a prequel novel to go along with it. Expect a multiplayer game with a rich story and world.

NWN is one of the greatest games of all time. This is due to the fact of the open tools which allowed people to make content and run their own server. Something we all know and love well. SOTA is similar after a fashion. It is not an MMO, but will use instances to group smaller chunks of players together to avoid that amusement park feeling. It will be a persistant world with tons of players, but with a smaller community type feel. In addition, they are crowdsourcing assets, so you can use Unity or other tools to submit assets, areas, music, etc which they might use in the game and pay you for. At a higher level you get access to assets they use in the game for use in your own game or to submit content back to them. You may not be able to run your own server or mod the online version of the game, but players having this kind of input into the development of a commerial game is exciting.

The community is very strong and reminds me of the many discussion we have had here over the years. In addition, the developers are heavily involved in the community and have weekly hangouts to show off thier work and help you create your own. Its really something very different and something I am very excited about.

I would be happy to answer any questions anyone has about the game if they are interested, and if you want to pledge I would be happy to PM you my email to use as a referial. However, just having some of this community in SOTA over the coarse of the next year would be reward enough. Smile You can also browse the forums on the main site for tons of information, or check out the TONS of videos from the developers talking about the game and features.

They implemented a user id system, so if anyone decides to join up and pledge for the game you can just use my user id code as the person that referred you.
