Character Names

So, there's a lot of names popping up of real life characters. It's been this way for awhile, and I hate it. I've just been too busy to be able to deal with it. What does everyone think? I am pretty sure that I am just going to have them give me a name, and I'll rename their character for them into something more appropriate for the setting.

Characters that will be changed:
Elmo
Grover
Cookie Monster
Loo Loo Lemondrop
And others I can't think of, but will deal with as I see them.

Your character names need to be ORIGINAL, not some rip from a movie or tv show, and CERTAINLY not something that makes no sense. If Thorin Oakenshield popped up I'd be far less annoyed than I am with the aforementioned names, but I'd still make you change it.

Yeah... it was a bad idea on their part...

(Though you could always just rename cleaven to sesame street... j/k)

wow after all the many years playing this game who cares what the names are maybe someone would like to get in a fight or a few blows on cookie monster.

Grover------ Barris Strava she googled it to make sure it was not from anything
Cookie Monster------ Dimple Gamwich used name generator but not from any movie or tv or fantasy show

1. On a server where it has been winter for 3 straight yrs .... for no apparent reason. Obsessing about character names seems silly to me.

$. The back story of Anphillia is about 2 opposing armies.
Soldiers of almost every nationality and group often use Callsigns, nicknames, etc.. that are used in everyday usage to refer to each other instead of their Birth names. {I think it has something to do with morale}

C. Loo Loo Lemondrop to my knowledge is NOT referring to anyone of historical, fictional, or Muppetal significance.. {However, my grandmother who sadly passed away about a year ago, always called me her "Little Lemondrop"... jus sayin}

What... happened?

I take it there is no more roleplay on the server...

If i log into a server and see a bunch of those names I get the impression it's not rp and full pvp, (a sucky full pvp server since you have to lvl yourself up and wait for opponants to not be afk.)

I recall years ago on a low anphillia server players on axfell side who used to camp the area north of fort cleaven, for ambushes (fun, fun!) did roleplay nicknames with each other... however the name hovering above the character's head was still a decent one. I think they called him snake or snake something because during ambushes he'd lay down stealthed right where the goblins and kobolds would battle each other... The screenshot they had was funny, ah nostalgia.
Oh and how could I forget, old server axfell had a player introducing himself as cotton but his character name was Terrence Jackson -people roleplayed and refered to him as cotton... it wasn't that hard to remember...

But yeah, who has time to remember to call a player something other than whats above their head, it would require roleplay to exist for this to happen. Since it doesn't why not permit the silly nonsense names.
(but still avoid the kiddy show/irl references ones... because thats ooc/lame.)

Godforbid the server resorts to people putting numbers in their names completely ignoring the roleplay aspect. Or an x at either end.. like.. xXxBazingaxXx (thats why name rules are important... -and if we don't up hold them then I call dibs on that name for my character if I start playing again. xD)


(it'll be 2 years this september 25th that the module is plagued by snow... )

I'm pretty sure there is a way to make names above a charecter invisible ...that would make for all this non sense to go away. Just sayin

Names like this demonstrate peoples unwillingness to put any energy or creativity into the consideration of the suspension of disbelief or even immersion of those around them in an RP setting. "I'm bad at making names" is a crap excuse, that's what they have a random button for.

This is just my experience seeing names like this.

I log onto the server, see names like that and its one factor in why I don't play anymore.

If it was my server, I'd delete the characters and tell the players one more name like that and they're gone.

But if it was my server, it would probably be an empty server so eh.

No, you're good people... I'd be thrilled if we had more players capable of this type of mindset -knowing right from wrong.

I think if there is a chance that players being goofy with their names discourages old players from coming back - character deletion is more than enough of a fair warning/lesson.
--Especially if said players are in the business of trying to argue/justify/defend the mistake they are making instead of realizing its wrong.

Names that break the atmosphere of the server will no longer be allowed. However...



... and these characters will get a chance to be renamed.

Here are some of my rulings in specific cases:

Darken Rahl - I did not recognize this name from it's original source material, it also does not break the mood of the server when I see it. But seeing as it's an actual character and some people might have a problem, I have to be fair. Sorry.

Loo Loo Lemondrop - So this only SOUNDS like it fits in with Sesame Street and doesn't actually fit in. It's still not going to be allowed as it breaks the RP environment I would prefer the server to have. If you wish that to be your characters nickname, you may RP it as such, put it in your description. However, I don't want it showing up in the player list for exactly the reasons TheeVals mentioned. Again, I apologize. I am also sorry for your loss.

Please PM me new character names, I will be changing them next week.

Dammit, I'm not googling everyone's character name.  By that right, Edward is the guy from Twilight, Shane is the guy from Walking Dead... so on.

If I recognize it, and it's not just a generic name (IE Jason, Shane, Ed, James, Kelly, Ashley, so on) then we'll drop it.  This should fall under the common sense rule.

my point was to support darken remaining darken and just drop the last name.

I figured Rolandius Radegast had a nice ring for a name change....
I dropped a PM to Rann and instead a name change I got my character deleted...

I backed up all the characters whose names I changed, I'll fix it.

Nope, still nothing.

I just put the backup in there without changing the name.  Darken Rahl isn't recognizable enough for this to be worth my trouble.
