Server Trouble Log

We are trying to get nwnx working properly now so it maybe a few reboots.

today when t bag samurai logged in we started getting wicked lagg as soon as he logged off it ran smooth again it seems like when players log in at times the lag starts and it has happen when i logged in at times the lag starts then i log off and it stops... i dont know why that happens just posting to let you know

oh oh oh, and I died becuse of that!!! Dont mind the "curseing and frustration" part. Just dont like to die!

If someone is intentionally causing lag, my hunch is that he'd be doing so by spawning oodles of objects at once. There are a few ways this could be done:

1) Abuse a memory editor at character creation to begin with oodles of items (character files are stored client-side before being uploaded to the server). If you're running a profiler*, an unusual number of hits on the on item acquire event or time spent on the on client enter event would be flags to look for here.
2) Create a single item at character creation with a tag that matches that of a DM or administrative item. This could be stopped by installing DM checks on the scripts for all of those items (heck, it's possible they're already there). Incidentally, this is one reason I'm not fond of tag-based scripts; though I'm certainly in the minority there.
3) Edit the character's dialogue file at character creation in order to access an administrative dialogue when talking to himself. This one's also easily checked for, and with NwNX players that try this could even be banned automatically.

(* Though you shouldn't be running one of these constantly, as it hampers performance.)

it happened as soon as he logged in and it happens with other accounts at times and as soon as the log out the lag goes away ive been told that it has happen with me too as soon as i log out the lag leaves well thats what ive been told by other players it doesnt always happen but it seems to do this at diffrent times with diffrent accounts i have notice

Snarley was telling me he has seen this exact thing happening as well. He suspected that there maybe a script that is locking on a character if they do xyz and it goes out of control.

Single scripts will typically TMI before causing too much fuss. The exception is with looped database writes. When those occur, it's lagzilla!

well uhm certainly.. I experienced this with denmc player first hand.

I don't that is where I noticed that part of it. we were all playing gang busters, he logs in and we all play ok. halfway through we all lagged like mad... he logs out and it goes back to working like a champ. We have tried to get script analysis stuff working but betwixt pheonix and me playing eighth-of-a-time admin (best case 1/ we haven't got it working to date.

but I can specifically revouch for what it was said for what I vouched for... which was two times mad lag happened... like mad... not just nwn lag tying up the machine running the server lag... and two times a specific player logged off and it all started to work like normal


Now lets all vote yea on wiping it..... cause noone is playing here anyhow
