Animals for skinning

Post  Skaldic on Sat Sep 01, 2012 1:38 am

Yes, post made by druid!

*QQ mode on*

I ran through the entire Grand Forest, around the fort, across the Plains...There are no badgers, deer or brown bears.
I get it you like to make some changes from time to time, but I just don't understand how removing these animals, which are a key element to tanning/tailoring can be on your priority list...

If you wanna 'defend' that step with some sort of reply saying that it's once per reboot spawn, well reboot happens once in 4 days or so.
Following this logic, flowers plants or ore veins shouldn't respawn either. Hell. Make everything once per reboot.

I really can't see any good in this change that was made :/

I've killed badger and deer in the forest multiple times you just have to find the spawn point, it's not in the ordinary "as soon as you go through the trans" spot anymore.

You do have a point as I made this system when the server was rebooting daily before. Now since our auto reboot script is having trouble this system seems flawed. There are a decent amount of these critters in the forest like sniper said you just have to hunt.
Flower do not respawn either. There is a finite amount per reboot. Ore still needs to be changed to be like this.

The point isnt to make crafting impossible. Previously having every ats animal spawn right next to the fort forever seemed flawed to me. We mine as well have the pelts for sale for a gold piece. I will try and reboot the server more often until the auto reboot script is fixed. If it hasnt been and you feel the forest has been cleaned out just ask for a reboot. I will give it a reboot now.

Alright, tried after reboot...Still feeling about it kind of..."eh"
I still don't understand how it's improving the server in anyway, if anything, it frustrates...

If others don't have a problem with it I will fall in line I guess.

Would the server be improved if the ats animal were all lined up next to each other cluttered all in an area right by the fort that respawned fast? It would be more efficiant but I still feel the animals being in the forest and having to seach or hunt for them adds a type of realism which enhances the game. Animal pelts have a little bit of value now. You cant just sit within the comfy confines of which ever fort you chose farming animals. You need to set out for the forest and hunt to find them.

Can anyone else comment who has been working on ats with pelts since the ?hange has gone in?

I dunno when I hosted Anph I was always really big on crafting resources being really rough to get so I think even in the GF there still a little easy to get to if you think about some of the other resources and how hard they are to get..

Kill that man. Bury him. Dig him up, rape him, raise him and kill again.

Which other resources are hard to get? And there's always f-ing tons of 'em.
There's 3 badgers a spawn per location...(oh, I'm lucky, there are five locations, I can pray they still spawn there because nobody was faster than me)
Bears are ridiculous.
If you wanna talk about realism, why Ancient bears don't give ...666 pelts. or any other animals which are just un-skinable...
I will have a look at my post when I'm sober and not full of hate('cause hate leads to dark side of the force)
This thing just pisses me off. Out of so many things, why THIS.

P.S. Maybe you should try tanning yourself. Then you will figure out how f*cked up it is.

Okay, maybe I got a bit carried away...
It is not actually that bad...If there were enough of those spawns (say more than 5 times) I guess I would be okay.

Drama queen. Smile

I understand your frustration skaldic. The spawn points in GF are also triggered by your lvl, so therefor for your lvl 39 you wont get more then the usuall badger spawns after a reset. With a low lvl character you will be able to spawn more badger/bears. By the way, the badger spawn in farmlands are quiet good I think.

Keep in mind these spawns are not straight forward. Often they will spawn behind you in an area already covered so it pays to run in circles a little when searching.

+1
I have a huge problem with it.
It makes tanning only accessible to high lvl characters.
Crafting should progress as the character does. If anything it eats up gold and slows down leveling. What is the problem with that?
The current spawn system is ridiculous.

Felix wrote:The point isnt to make crafting impossible.
Yet that is the result. Even if given all materials it is going to take several 8 hour days to max out tanning.

Skaldic wrote:P.S. Maybe you should try tanning yourself. Then you will figure out how f*cked up it is.
Yea, give it a shot. Sure, you'll reset the server and run right out and get your pelts and exclaim how easy it was. While the rest of us are supposed to dedicate all this time looking for something that isn't even there.

Felix wrote:You need to set out for the forest and hunt to find them.
In two weeks I've seen 1 badger, for a fraction of a second, right before I got meteor swarmed at lvl 5.
What is the point in any of the low level crafted gear if you have to be lvl 25?
Why don't we just get rid of all the crafting and only offer the top dye?
That way all you have to do is about 6 hours of crafting.
Oh hell why don't we just make everything a random drop off once a week bosses.
Then we can just camp bosses like twenty thousand better looking RPGs.

Felix wrote:Can anyone else comment who has been working on ats with pelts since the change has gone in?
The current system is worse than CNR.
The challenge to this was to craft the next level of gear so you would be able to survive making it to the next flower location.
It was a balanced system. Now it is all mucked up. Of course it is. It's Moth's. The home of "anything advantageous is an exploit".

Crafting is a HUGE time sink. It is a HUGE gold sink. (except armor/wpns)
Yet there should be no advantage. No

It's already difficult enough that only a few do it yet you are making it harder.
Friggin brilliant if you ask me. cheers

Nothing personal. You asked for an opinion. That is mine.

Given my preferences I'd take all these high magic trinkets and super weapons away from the players. If you want to talk about something that doesn't make sense. Let's talk about all these fighters running around using magic items and +12 weapons with every kind of elemental damage under the sun.

That's just fine.
It's the badgers that is broken. Rolling Eyes

My weapon has +20 and all the elemental damages under the sun and 3 of the ones above it!

.. It also spawns badgers on-hit Smile

Now that's cool.

Sorry about the rant above. It is just so frustrating that you can't make gloves, belts or boots.

It isn't like they are powerful belts or gloves. I suppose the black gloves would be the most useful.
I haven't seen anything over powerful compared to anything I can get from the goblin cave chest.

I did manage to farm some bears today for about 5 hours which was enough to move me to black bats. I should be able to farm enough of those in a good amount of time as well. It still doesn't fix anything.

Well, that looks like a post that isn't mixed in with something you obviously don't know a lot about! I'll respond!

Many crafted items (Especially gloves/belts/robes) are an absolutely key part of most builds. This makes crafting a necessity. So, I'd say, that crafting was not useless at all.

I don't think the problem lies with the things you can make, rather it hasn't been handed to you on a plate.

Why should crafting be easy?

Who said crafting was easy?

What I am saying is that it has gone from tough, time consuming and expensive to over the top.

Everything is handed to you on a plate EXCEPT crafted items.
The logic is convoluted and contrived.

Have you had any experience grinding gold?

Also, what else is handed to you on a plate?
