XP Penalty

Alright, I'm usually pretty hesitant to make a long-winded post like this, because they usually don't get anywhere, but I'm going to take a shot at it, as I REALLY like this server, and what I've just discovered, is in my opinion, disgusting.

The scaling xp penalty for char death that is in place now, is both ridiculous, and insane. I died a sec ago, and re-spawned, since for ic reasons, there would be no legitimate reason/way to ask for help. I took an xp penalty for just under 6000 (and I'm only level 18).

Here are the problems with this:

1) We do not have an active enough playerbase to enforce this sort of "party-mandatory" environment, and until we do, it is only choking down people's willingness to venture out.

2) You will NOT attract new, quality players, that are willing to suffer those kinds of losses and setbacks when they try to go out and explore.

3) At first I didn't understand why most prefer to sit in afk locations and soak xp, rather than going out in groups. Now I understand. These xp penalties are actually counter-productive to people who've been hit by the penalties, and for them, it's not worth the risk of adventuring.

4) I spend more time rping/crafting/mining than I do leveling (and here recently, even rping with the opposing faction). I'm having to level to obtain access to the next series of ores (which is fine, it makes sense). But what has happened here because we do not have enough active players to support these kinds of party operations, is that my ability to adventure has effectively been put in the hands of afkers.

I understand this may be a peeve of stubbornness for some folks, but if we're really serious about attracting reasonable/active players, this is going to have to change. I'm generally pretty easy going about things. But I will not put up with sadistic xp penalties, designed to enforce the impossible (and until we have more players, this xp penalty is trying to enforce the impossible).

With all due respect, I'm asking the staff to revisit this constructively. If not, I will be forced to find another server that does not twist my arm and penalize me for going out and having fun. When we have active players on regularly, THEN we can enforce party-activity.

P.S. and I appologize for my tone, but I just watched over 5 hours of hard leveling get erased in a split second, all because someone else thinks it's how you promote "group-activity" on server that has 2-3 active people, when those 2-3 are also divided by factions. Sorry - that's just lame lol.

I used to go out in groups and would still go out in groups...
whats discouraging is how easy other players tend to die though... sometimes it's like playing the game alone still despite being in a group of 3-4 just because it seems people don't even try to stay alive...
I could be off grinding condors treasure all day long if only I was interested... but at the moment I doubt any amount of condor teasure or power build combo will help with the fact that I seem to be consistantly stuck in situations where the only pvp opportunities I get are 2 or more vs 1.
It's discouraging me from actively playing which is ironicly as counter productive as a player with the mentality... "Not many people are online... so I won't play until more people come back" xD (because they're not helping solve the issue of the lack of numbers... and contributing to it in a small way..)
Though even if I get active and help others get to lvl 40... been there and done that before.. and it seems to result was the same.. Me ending up facing pvp situations solo.. against teams.

(cue small violin music?)
Really only stay here... leveling up characters to have some prepared and ready for that rare day where i can actually enjoy group pvp... as in team vs team.. instead of team vs only me...

The part about all this unbalanced nonsense is that in the past the few moments I was on the side of the team vs 1 player...
there was always that 1 or 2 people in the team.. that spoke up against participating in such unbalanced pvp... and they stopped so it didn't happen... However... teams still pvp vs only me... not a sign of any one of them backing out... out of consideration of the fact that I'm out numbered...

and as for roleplay with enemies.. seems i never get so 'lucky' to be offered even this...
Aside from the terribly obnoxious "ooc-rp" of being blamed/judged as a horrible/lame player for solo-assaulting.. only a few minutes after being outnumbered in pvp during a defense... no ones judging the players who out number me as 'horrible'/lame

So i guess it's not so bad that i miss out on cross faction roleplay since nonsense logic hurts my brain and I've 0 tolerance for it.

Nah I hear ya. I haven't pvped yet. In fact I saw a lowbie cleaven running about outside of Ranz day before yesterday, and I purposefully didn't attack them. I'm more into not ruining people's fun if I can avoid it lol.

At a young age I was diagnosed with a chronic illness of Rationalitus... which prevents me from taking part in fun activities such as... hypocricy, goofing off, trolling, politics, philosophy, 'free style' debates (as opposed to the proper formulation of debates...), etc...
 
over the years I have tried exposing myself to small doses of a few of the above formentioned activities in an attempt to adapt and increase my tolerance... I've managed to cope well with my attempts at being a troll and goofing off, even managed a few hypocritical thought sessions... it truely is... a daily struggle though with little to no progress in sight.
 
I found it simply best for me to avoid the potentially more lethal activities; politics, philosophy, 'flawed debates'... which are more easily avoidable than the ones I've attempted to partake in.
