UMD and You.

So, we will all agree that most things that are not useful on this mod have been made useful, from spells, to feats, to pets, and so on. And UMD is VERY useful. However, when is the last time you made a character that could get more than 15 ranks? Or 25 at best, because at 25 UMD I've never ever in the history of NWN ever seen an item I couldn't use, and 15 covered just about everything. In fact only recently do I recall an item requiring 25 and it is the Undead Longbow +3. What I'm wondering is if there's a way to make more ranks, even maxing the skill, worthwhile. Perhaps you can increase the caster level of the magical items and scrolls you use? Perhaps... well no that's really my only idea.

But seriously, UMD over 15 is pretty nice if you ever meet a bard.

All my characters who took UMD had 26 UMD...

26 would be necessary if you had 8 charisma. But still, there's literally NO reason to go past that. Skills max out at 43 invested ranks and then there is ESF:UMD etc etc etc all these feats that are completely and totally useless. I just saw something useless, remembered that TheMothMan once said one of his goals was to make EVERYTHING useful, so I thought I'd bring to light that more than 26 ranks in UMD is utterly pointless as are the feats, with a mostly un-thought out use for them. I think if you could increase duration on item buffs or caster level or something based on your umd ranks, that would give a reason to take more than 26 ranks and maybe even take the ESF feat. Unless anyone else has a better idea?

UMD is useful.

With one of the most powerful, at present, debuffs - curse song. Having invested ranks makes it useful. (-22 Skills hurts)

More useless, is the tumble skill. Skill feats, points past 40 and dex bonus added to it, do nothing. Noone complains about this!

The problem with making these skills better (Notice better, not useful) is that they are dump skills.
