Wooo, the big four-oh! What now...?

I also think it would be great to have single characters around longer. Even with xp low though at 40 most tend to make alts. We really need a solution to this problem as well. We should brainstorm on another thread.

This is a thread to discuss the issue with lvl 40's dropping their characters and making alts. but the two people above word the issue better than i do! xD

Lets debate and suggest solutions to encourage people to keep and remain rping their lvl 40 characters for the sake of roleplay not dieing out with the disappearence of said lvl 40.

First off, who agrees that there is currently an issue with lvl 40's being to busy with alts?
If a player is bored with their build should making an alt be so terrible?
Or is this mentality less rp for the sake of focusing on the game mechanics rather than the character infront of the chosen classes?

IMO making alts is fine its just when everyone does it constantly the only time you RP with a character is when they are on their way up then when they are 40 poof they are gone after a few PvPs only to return when PvP happens its sad. Not everyone wants to keep playing the same character after they reach 40 and that is understandable. I think it would be best to give the players that do play their level 40 characters some sort of goal or reward to look forward to.
So to reiterate the stated goal is to give players a little bit of incentive to play their level 40 characters without making said incentive very powerful or necessary in any way.

Firstly is this a good goal?
If it is.....
anyone have any good ideas to achieve it???

A suggestion. I can't script so I don't know if it can be done or dat people like it. But it will be a start and perhaps it will give someone a better idea.

A quest for level 40. Your captain asks you to deliver a goat for a party that Lord Sten is giving in Ranzington. The thing is that Cleaven/Axfall did untercept the recruit who did and you have to get it back from them. What only can be done if you RP with one of the opposite faction.
Everyone will get a goatfigurine-or it can be something else - when they log in the dream (Axfall/Cleaven)

Lord Sten ask you then if you could get a necklace back , he wanted to give his wife and that one of his paladins has lost in condors.
It should be fond on a place there, not that easy to get but I would not suggest Emos. Somewhere in between..

If you have return it to Lord Sten you will get acces to a shop where you can choose for a second armor that will delevel you till a certain level, If you wear it you can go on adventure with people around that level. It cannot be given away.
You will have that armor till next reset. (If there is a reset just twice a week )

Ranks

Post  Kombat Karl on Sat Apr 02, 2011 8:35 pm

I think it would be cool to have a Rank system for the forts. This is something that could encourage people to keep playing their main characters to gain rank points/tokens and rank up within the fort. So asside from the RP elections you can have some sort of system where people are actually given some sort of ranking within the fort, just like a military, and it would basically show seniority in RP. for an incentive for more than just the RP i suppose you could make it so that after so many rank tokens / points you can spend it on a fort specific item that isn't really any better than everything else that is on the module but perhaps just a bit different and maybe will have a certain use somewhere that it would be helpful.

To me this would give both RP'ers and PG'ers and the people who mix of both something to work toward after level 40. I think it would also help RP due to the fact that people could have Ranks and such and possibly a tool to use on players that would tell you their rank based on a check vs bluff for those that may try to hide their rank.

I think it's been mentioned in the past already,

but how about 40's (who would decided so) becoming NPCs, say - There would be no Marcus Fyne, but Jesse Lyonsen instead.
Or just new NPC anywhere the guy would think of, with some quest, which the said guy would made up and handed over to the DM in PM as a suggestion...

This topic seems pointless if you do that "£$%£^£$^%$£ wipe. Evil or Very Mad

Well for level 40s I would suggest custom items but then people would be worried about balance. I happen to have a good eye for things like this, and if Constrainer wanted me to I could be in charge of making sure these items were balanced. If that is something he would let pass.

I Personally like the idea of custom items an ranks only in a different way then gear. For Example: Player 1 has been defending fort on his own and axfells/Cleavens havent been able to enter. So said player gets rank point wich make him raise in rank and gets rank points. With these rank point you can aquire items, perhaps a portable throne wich you can deploy, a portal stone to teleport you to ranz, get a costum type mule, a pet etc. These things will maintain the balance as it is but you will be able to get items.

Special mounts could be an example of such an item.

Portal stones sound like a good idea, maybe something that drops a portal for 30sec so you can take the party with you.

So I guess in the way of items you mean something that doesnt really give an advantage over other players? Only problem I see with that is that some people dont want items like that. Such as one of the last servers I played on a few months before I started the Anphillia mod. People would play their 40s for a week or 2, maybe 3 and then just start new characters. It was sorta set up like Anphillia in the PvP aspect, but whoever made the mod didnt know how to code in the factions, so the only way to tell good guys from bad guys was color of armor and light given off from items. Blue for one side and red for the other. It was ok... but I got a little annoyed with how many 40s would pop up when we were under attack, and it was the same way when we attacked them.

I only reached level 22 on that one, but only did one raid. After you see 10+ people log out and then back in with 40s... well lets say I didnt last long. XD

I'll stop, I think I'm off topic and ranting now.

I think the best way to keep a lvl 40 around is roleplay.

If said lvl 40 doesn't enjoy the rp thats around etc then the enjoyment of their build should be enough to keep them around?

Teleportation would be nice! =D

mounts would disclude shifters and RDD's basicly any build that fights with forms... but a mount that can be called apon and riden where ever would be nice if it didn't discluse certain characters/builds.

In my experience with servers... You add tepelortation devices and people get LAZY! Not just that this could be easily abused in PvP to escape.. And as far as mounts go I would disclude the ride ability as this would throw off AC for PvP signifigantly

Very good ideas. I like the ranking idea I just wouldn't want it in anyway to resemble a ranking system in say CoD. Meaning I don't know if ranks being given independent of RP is a good idea. Ex. Karl gets a triple kill new rank acquired Sargent!

Some staff has discussed coming up with some items that high ranking fort members have that give them power within their respective forts. Imagine someone goes against a leader of a fort he maybe able to use an item to have them seized by guards and put on a flogging pole and have them lashed while he states what crimes have been committed.

One idea I had to encourage level 40s to stick around more is to make xp still worth something to them. As it is now once a comfortable cushion is reached over 40 there is no point in gaining xp further nor no harm in dieing or using death as a teleport sometimes. What if at the 1 million xp mark and every.5 million after a character could add +1 attribute point to an item of their choosing? The item could only be used by the character who earned it and xp not matter how high we make it should be relatively low for a level 40. My hope is that .5 million xp would be to much to have groups of levels 40's grinding for the extra +1 to an item but would be a little reward something to look forward to while adventuring with fort mates.

Since I cant seem to find it. When you hit 40, what is your EXP show? Lets just use 500,000 as an example.

I would say .5 mil exp over 40 would be nice, but like said. No one would really do the grind for it. Maybe something on a scaling system?

First +1 is 50,000
Then +1 is 100,000
Then +1 is 150,000
Then +1 is 200,000
And so on.

I guess you would also have to gauge how big of a group is doing the grind, and how much exp a level 40 would be getting, but I like the idea of having the +1 on gear for X amount of exp reached.

780000xp

That's the point! Smile we dont want groups of 40's out grinding all the time. We would like to give them a little bit of a reward for say leading a party of lower levels which would primarily help the lower levels. Before the 40 going out would reap no or hardly any benefit from the xp they gained now the hope is they will gain enough benefit for them to like adventuring, without them always grinding and neglecting any RP because they need to gain the next post 40 milestone.
Anyone think that could work?

yeah.. the Ranking system I was thinking of really should do nothing with how much people grind and how powerful of a build but rather their time in the fort and their RP, ie i think you should be able to gain rank easier by actually playing rather than sitting in here afk. it would be more of something DM's could give out as a reward like a rank token of some sort that you use toward obtaining IC ranks within the fort.

Indeed, i agree with Karl here. these things should be obtained by Rp and not by combat skill. There are still people out there who arent to good at making power builds, but play a awsome support roles and are very good at Rp, these people should be awared with these things aswell, perhaps even more then those with powerbuild since they actualy invest more in their chars then most do.
