Monk items

Post  Krakilin on Thu Mar 17, 2011 3:09 am

I was just curious if it was possible to address some of the gear issues for monks. Like me and Sue who are not multi classing monks really. the only gear that pertains to us seems to be the two helmets with dm note on monk levels. most other gear is comprised of mismatched rogue gear such as the constrainer that is near pointless beyond our original shining hand +4. likewise the gloves are limited to the +4 (AB (not enh) and one ele dmg type +4) when comparing it to the weapons is just horrible since the KI strike does not really factor into it past a point. The kama's in particular are weak except the one that is only usable by weaponmasters, which seems silly since we lack strength and most mobs here resist insane anyway. In my case I use a bow but the DM note on almost every bow except the lamirs ones do not allow monks to use them. but I was just wishing for some kind of gear that can be bought on par with other classes that is not mismatched from other dex classes.

Sue is multyclassed as far as i remember.

But you and gray seem to be pure thus far, thats right you left out the unty monk! and a few axfell monks.. at least one but do not know the name...

Maybe since this server is not being worked on, new gear might not pop around..? i don't know since its the host that'll have to make this gear and impliment it.. and he has his own mod to work on. Smile
Wonder if he or velvet enforce those DM notes. -If they and other players feel more lax about those dm notes perhaps pure monks can just use whatever items available? o,O
Its up to the staff and the community i guess...

yeah I asked about dm notes and he said yes they are enforced. no flaming zealot for non monks Very Happy.

But she is multiclassed yes but I meant like 9 monk, or 3 monk. both me and her are over 20 so its clearly the bulk of out class. and again even without the dm notes its gear not made for us. its all mismatched. but the bows would help.

Well then it seems the only options are;

The host being generious and making new monkish items! ^-^

Or

No epics monk gears! D:

Is it that devestating for pure monks to not have gears? Smile

What type of gear would you think is best, to introduce to anph mod? Razz

That's what I was deciding. abut put constrainer against any other armor like halo, or clerical intervention. and its horrible by comparison. the rings and amulet are fine and could easily make do. cloak you can opt out and take the ac deflection mod. but weapons be it gloves, kama (except the WM one) and armor are extremely sub par.

Post  VelvetRoom on Thu Mar 17, 2011 6:12 am

I have yet to poke around and know all items but the best ones i can find for a monk based character is through tailoring i guess. There are a few gloves, like for example the wyrm gaunlets which in my opinion are the best for a monk, but nothing that can be compared with some weapons.

For example, Using certain items that give you the magic device skill will help use scrolls that can bost your weapons, either it is a glove or kama. The jewelery department i think it is quite balanced. Armor will likely be the hardest thing to find or create. I have yet to see the crafter monk armors and i dont really know how good they are.

These are just a few ideas but i guess some items could be added for the monk class, All depends on star judgement.

yeah thats what I was thinking like if he doesent wish to I can play rogue to make up the loss to normal gear really. I may switch from bow to hand to hand though. I just did not want to rely on items to tailor my build

I will start making some monk gear now and will post some items when I have them made.
Note: Any items that I make will not be able to be crafted, and I'm not sure if they will be on the loot table either, but I will do my best to get them around to Monk players.

There are at least 2 sets of monk +5 gloves that are exreemly good that can be found. Monks also have a choice of monk armor thats crafted which gives weapon spec unarmed and impoved crit unarmed on the same +4 armor. I do not think monks are lacking gear at all on this server. Monks get so many very good abilities naturally I think the gear available is more than sufficient. Anyone else?

Also besides the other things I have listed monk count as a sneaker class meaning they can use that very awesome sneaking cloak in the desert requires 30 sneaker and +5 robes can be found as well.

While this is true mostly. I have seen that Monks to get the short straw alot. I added some items to give a little more... spice to the people that play Monks. Any monk gear I make I will not make for Epic levels.

weapons.. I know sue uses gauntlents, we have one kama monk and I am a bow monk. heh.

Gauntlents may be fine with wyrm gauntlents and such. not sure as I do not use them to tell you the balance. Kamas seem weak except the wm one. but a bit of str or dmg never hurt since pure monks use chip damage anyway. just hard to do since a WM monk could destroy with it. and for bow... anything useful with no dm tag Razz

I was looking through the bows last night, there are alot of them without DM notes on them. They just happen to be crafted, bows like Epic Elven Court Bow, powerful yes, but has the DM note on it.

Post  J. Persinne on Thu Mar 17, 2011 12:40 pm

Handing gear out is not the way to go, IMO. It's just bound to be unfair. Fortunately, adding new loot is almost brain dead easy. If you want to add loot that's to be found (rather than bought), you need simply add it to the chests in the !ATS Reserved Area. (No, really. You won't break anything. That's what they're there for.)

That said, jeez, that monk gear is awesome. Send some my way. My 60 AB Monk/WM will thank you.

Really, though, monks aren't starved for gear. For monk only stuff, they have Contender gloves (AB +5, +8 bludgeoning damage, +4 saves vs. negative energy, +5 concentration), and the Flaming Zealot helm (+3 strength, +3 AC, Fire Resist 10 / -, Regeneration +1, Saving Throw Bonus: Fire +8, Skill Bonus: Discipline: +23). For harassment, they can wear Belleverous Breacher gloves (AB +4, On Hit: Greater Dispelling [DC=26], Regeneration +1). Cloth-wise, they have access to Yellow Monk Robes, granting +4 AC and Weapon Specialization (arguably a bit better than what most cloth-wearers have access to), but can always default back to Conversion (+4 AC, Bonus Feat: Mobility, Piercing Resist 5 / -, Slashing Resist 5 / -, Regeneration + 1) or Sin (AC +3, Bonus Feat: Disarm, Acid Resist 5 / -, Piercing Resist 5 / -, Regeneration +1). They count as a melee class and a sneaker class, opening up gear such as the Seams of Abstruse cloak (+1 Dexterity, +5 AC, Sonic Resist 10 / -, Regeneration +1, Universal Saves +1, Hide +15, Move Silently +15, Spell Resistance 22) and Epic Spell Bane belt (Constitution +1, +4 AC, Magical Resist 10 / -, Regeneration +1, Spellcraft +6). Kama-wise, they have access to Sleeping Grudge (AB +4, +1 Divine Damage, +1 Positive Damage, On Hit: Greater Dispelling [DC=26]) and the Imaskari Kama (+1d6 Acid Damage, Enhancement Bonus +3, Discipline +5); these kamas are among some of the best weapons on the server. As for bows, they have access to many of the infinite ammo weapons, including Archnemesis (Requires 25 Character Levels; Dexterity +1, AB +5, Mighty +6, Regeneration +2, Discipline +8, Unlimited +5 Ammunition).

In short: color me puzzled. Monk gear is fine.

Re: Monk items

Post  SnarleysAngel on Thu Mar 17, 2011 2:28 pm

Monks are nigh unkillable, and there is some super strong gear for them to be found. The conversion armor in darrons is comparable to the armors found in shops for other classes. To the best of my knowledge the mod is balanced around +5 max enhancement for nearly all gear.

Please don't give an already very powerful weapon some crazy high gear when others have to work very hard to find or craft gear that is considered epic for this mod. That is how it should be in my eyes. You have to go out there as a team and work for it to get it and shouldn't be easily available. That is what motivates each side to build up their resources for warfare and to figure out the extremely challenging dungeons. Other wise there is no reason to go to them and get killed or eke out a victory.

If you want to see an example of what can be crafted for monks or some of the nice monk gloves ask constrainer or I in game. With their speed, SR, skills available to them and the fact that weapon damage can be added to monk gloves they are not in need of help with gear and any such help will throw off the balance I think.

I agree completely with Snarley and Kumo. There are other classes that are way more starved of gear than monks. Take rangers for example. Poor Rangers.

Post  JakeMaster on Thu Mar 17, 2011 2:57 pm

First off it depends on what kind of monk your tryin to build. Its hard to make a well rounded monk without multi classing because it starves for merely every ability. If you want to go full monk thats your decision but it has nothing to do with gear its the way you build it.. Can dump everything in dex and have high AC ok AB but crappy damage. Can do strength ok AB and good damage but your AC and reflex throw suffer. And of course wisdom will offer the high stun fist along with AC and spell resist. This is the way monks have always been atleast thats how I see it. I dont believe they are starving for gear from what I have found in loot and shops. And Snarley is right I dont know how people in Cleaven do it but in Axfell we go out as a team of 5 at a time and explore and go to different places and have been able to find some pretty good stuff. This server from what I have seen runs on teamwork teamwork teamwork. Get to know the server and actually explore it before ya knock it and say its unbalanced. Just my thoughts

Monks are already very powerfull. they have good armor , good gloves, epic helmets, epic sneaker gear etc. altough there is one thing i do agree about is that there are hardly any decent kama's for a monk except for the Wm ones and mithril. i have experienced playing a monk first hand for a long time and believe me if i say 40 monks are EPIC. The only thing that monks do not have is kama's and that is it.
